Campus Climate Neutral is an ambitious and unprecedented effort to bring together tomorrow’s environmentalists and industrial revolutionaries today to construct aggressive, innovative, and profitable climate solutions.
Campus Climate Neutral projects brings together diverse teams of graduate students – from law, business, economics, engineering, design, management, finance, political science, and the hard sciences – and puts them to work transforming their campuses into climate neutral models. Students then use these skills to run similar efforts in their neighborhoods, campus towns, counties, and businesses.
Campus Climate Neutral projects are intended to overcome traditional differences – whether political, professional, religious, or cultural - to focus on the common ground and common goals that all humans share. Campus Climate Neutral stresses collaboration over confrontation, productive discussion over demands, and long-term collaborative learning and growth over short-term fixes.
Campus Climate Neutral is run by the National Association of Environmental Law Societies (NAELS), a coalition of environmental law student groups from across the country. NAELS believes, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, that law students and lawyers have an elevated opportunity to serve as societies problem-solvers. NAELS mobilizes, trains, educates, and inspires the next generation of environmental leaders.
In addition to direct greenhouse gas reduction projects, NAELS organizes and supports Campus Climate Neutral law and policy projects. Through these projects, students identify policy and legal hurdles to aggressive greenhouse gas reduction at the campus, city, county, state, national, and international levels. Students then work with professionals from the private, public, and governmental sectors to create, propose, and implement laws and policies that will aggressively reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
NAELS also supports the next generation of graduate students through our role as a founding partner of the Energy Action Network, a coalition of student and youth groups focusing on clean energy solutions, and their project the Campus Climate Challenge.
NAELS also supports sustainability efforts in higher education, including the United Nations United States Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, the Association for Advancement of Higher Education, and the Higher Education Climate Action Partnership.
NAELS is honored to support the Great Warming, a revolutionary film that highlights both the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change, and the amazing opportunities available through innovative climate solutions.
NAELS looks forward to working through Campus Climate Neutral to support a Modern Industrial Revolution that will stop the Great Warming and produce a new Greatest Generation of US and world leaders that work together to bring the prosperity of the US to communities around the globe.
