ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY STUDY INSTITUTE
The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmentally sustainable societies.  Founded in 1984 by a bipartisan and bicameral group of Congressional Members, EESI seeks to be a catalyst that moves society away from environmentally damaging fossil fuels and toward a clean energy future that sustains people, the environment and the natural resources upon which present and future generations depend.  EESI advances innovative policy solutions that will result in decreased global warming and air pollution; improvements in public health, energy security and rural economic development opportunities; and the protection of areas such as the Arctic and coastal regions.  To meet these goals, EESI uses a multi-pronged approach of policymaker education, coalition building/networking, and policy development.

EESI educates policymakers and the public through credible, timely information and innovative policy initiatives in the form of Congressional briefings, publications, task forces and meetings involving policymakers, scientists, businesses, public policy organizations and other experts.  EESI’s current programs are: energy & climate change; bioenergy & agriculture; and transportation & smart growth.  EESI fills a unique niche through its many efforts to bring together the science and technology communities with federal policymakers to inform and seek out “win-win” policy solutions on these issues.

EESI is governed by a diverse Board of Directors, made up of former Members of Congress and environmental, business and academic leaders, and has a multidisciplinary professional staff.
