The Academy of Evangelical Scientists and Ethics is a long-standing academy that recently has formally organized, with about 70 scientists and ethicists as Fellows. Academy Fellows are professional scientists and ethicists dedicated to responsible Christian environmental stewardship. Over years and decades we have been a growing academy (small letter "a") of colleagues in our development of a scientific and biblical foundation for stewardship and have been applying this in various ways in our colleges and universities, seminaries, institutes, organizations, homes, communities, and in environmental policies and practices.
Identifying our academy as the Academy of Evangelical Scientists and Ethicists identifies us as a formal entity in the evangelical world and beyond as a credible, responsible, and substantial scientific and ethical source for knowledge and understanding of Christian environmental stewardship, faithful earthkeeping, and devoted care for God's Creation. This is Increasingly important as evangelical scientists and ethicists have become not only more visible, but also more relied upon for advice, counsel, and support on Christian environmental stewardship.
Designation as a Fellow of the Academy is honorific and is based upon qualifications, professional status, expertise, and exemplary contributions to Christian environmental stewardship. Professional scientists and ethicists become Fellows only through nomination by the Fellows of the Academy. Every Fellow has the highest academic degree in their field of scholarship and research and every Fellow has a faith commitment to protect and care for the totality of God’s Creation. Fellows personify an understanding of the richness, depth, and beauty in Creation that goes well beyond any ones abilities to express and also personify an understanding of the inexpressible richness, depth, and beauty in Christ’s work in Creation. As there is a richness, depth, and beauty in Creation that goes well beyond any of our abilities to express, so also is there a richness, depth, and beauty in Christ's work in the world. And this inspires people to be God's stewards with love, devotion, and dedication.
Fellows believe they must express the privilege and responsibility to care for God's Creation in their life and work, mirroring God’s love for the world and believing in the reconciling love of Jesus Christ by whom all things are created, held together, and reconciled to God in accord with Colossians 115-20. Moreover, believing on Jesus and recognizing his love and work as a servant, Fellows also seek to be servants of him, the triune God, and the whole of God’s Creation.
The specific and disciplined focus of the Academy is on Christian environmental stewardship and how this stewardship applies from the very local to the wider biosphere. Our principal purpose is to provide a credible and substantial scientific and ethical base and witness for caring for God’s Creation.
